Job description

Cloud Brigade is a technical consultancy bringing cutting-edge solutions to our client’s biggest business challenges. We like to think of ourselves as a Special Operation Team (or SkunkWorks), and our projects span our three core pillars; Software Development, Cloud Operations, and Data Science. We have several industry partnerships including with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Our CEO is a technical founder who works closely with our team to carry client/project vision to reality, was recognized as an AWS ML Hero in 2021, and has presented technical talks at several forums including AWS re:Invent.

Cloud Brigade is looking for a WordPress developer with Full Stack programming skills. Your responsibilities will include architecting and developing advanced WordPress websites with extensive features and technical integrations. We work exclusively with custom developer themes, and we don’t use drag-n-drop page builders (Divi, Elementor, Visual Composer, etc.). You must be comfortable with Object-Oriented PHP and building custom functions and plugins following WordPress best practices. You take a minimalist approach to the use of plugins and favor well-architected solutions deployed in the right places.

In this position, you will work directly with our clients and team members to execute projects from concept to completion. You will contribute to internal and client-facing documentation, define development practices, and support other team members with architecture decisions, and clearing technical hurdles. In addition, you will assist sales staff in articulating technical details for project proposals. Your efforts will help to shape our company culture which is in the midst of a major pivot and preparing to scale.

As an ideal candidate for this position, you possess an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. You enjoy working with a wide range of technology and are always up for a challenge. You have a proven track record for architecting stable and scalable solutions, and your Internet Searching Foo (ability to choose the right search terms to find solutions) is unparalleled. You are a geek with social skills, the ability to focus on problem-solving on your own while embracing a collaborative team culture. Your superpower is your ability to say “yes, we can solve this problem”.

The WordPress/Full-Stack developer requires the following qualifications :

  • Working knowledge of LESS, Sass, or similar CSS pre-processors
  • Solid understanding of Git
  • Experience with CDNs and other caching methods
  • Solid Linux command line capability including use of SSH/SFTP

As you might imagine, this position could be the dream job for the right candidate. We are a small agile team which is preparing to grow to new heights, and as we scale, room will be available to evolve your job position and impact on the company, our team members, and our clients.

Since 2020 our team has been working remotely, with all team members residing near our company headquarters. It is unclear what a post-pandemic work arrangement looks like, which could include some form of hybrid environment TBD. We will give preference to candidates who reside within commute distance to our headquarters in Santa Cruz, California, just 25 miles from the South Bay Area. We may consider fully remote candidates with a preference given to the Pacific Time zone.

Providing your salary expectations is a requirement, applications without a compensation amount in US dollars (i.e. negotiable, TBD, market rate, etc.) will be ignored. As a small company which realizes it’s revenue through consulting projects, we can not compete with the salaries offered by the MAANG companies (Meta, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Google), or startups which generate substantial subscription revenue. If maximizing your salary is your primary goal, we won’t meet your expectations. We do believe in compensating our team members favorably, and within the constraints of our revenue model.

We will support your career journey, and we know you probably won’t work here forever. We embrace being a stepping stone on your pathway to meeting your personal and professional goals. Since 2010 we have been curating quality talent, and every past team member has left the company with significant additional skills. We believe everyone is a lifelong learner, there is always room for improvement, and that all team members have untapped potential for personal growth. When it’s time for you to move to the next step in your path, we ask that you to leave your position in better shape than you may have found it.

Compensation :

This is a W-2 Salaried position (40 hours is the norm, not 50, 60, 80…)
Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance is provided (cost shared)
Paid Time Off and most holidays, with extended breaks during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years

Our company is currently exploring additional perks and compensation which may include :

  • Employee ownership in some form (i.e. ESOP, Owner-Worker, Coop)
  • Revenue based bonus or profit sharing
  • 401k, enhanced medical
