We’re looking for an up & coming Web Developer with talent, creativity, & integrity to join our team full-time.
Ascent is a compact, agile, “behind-the-scenes” interactive agency based in Clinton, NJ, and we’re looking to add a fresh web developer with a “bring it on” attitude to help expand our capabilities and meet deadlines. We specialize in working in close partnership with our creative clients, collaborating to create excellent results driven by a balance of humility and confidence in our brainpower.
This is a great role for someone who, regardless of experience, has a lot of talent & wants an environment where they can grow quickly & play a crucial role in projects.
You’ll work closely with our lead developer on several concurrent projects, in a small, very positive team environment. We mostly work on-site in Clinton to maximize our collaboration, but you’d have the flexibility to work from home or have flex-hours as needed – as long as you’re productive, we’re happy. If you’re into super-cool offices with impressive swag, or an agency that looks fancy on social media, we’re not the ones for you. But if you enjoy tackling challenges, great teamwork, & building strong positive relationships, we want to hear from you.
It’s crucial for you to have great critical thinking & problem solving skills, a little creativity, and legit talent with both back-end PHP/MySQL development and front-end HTML/CSS/Javascript. Custom development in WordPress & Drupal will be the norm. We do plenty of custom API integrations, so comfort with JSON, cURL, & interpreting lousy documentation will be part of the role as well. It’s also very helpful if you have familiarity with MVC frameworks. You don’t need to be a designer, but you do need to have an eye for aesthetics & be able to execute good-looking pages based on an approved theme.
You’ll need to be comfortable with the unexpected, and be a fast learner – you could be asked to pitch in on anything from email development to SEO to custom Google Analytics & Tag Manager work. If you like learning new things, you definitely won’t get bored. We need the type of person who is a true problem solver who will “find a way” even if the solution isn’t obvious.
